Brigitte broke off a bit of her croissant and smoothed a tiny portion of butter onto it. Eva was rather cute, but so uptight. She’d obviously had a privileged upbringing and never had to face much unpleasantness. How had her revelations last night affected Eva?

She’d really been uneasy about facing Eva this morning. When she’d first come awake, she’d thought about how one minute she’d been taking off her makeup and the next she was pouring her heart out to Eva. Funny, but as soon as she’d seen her in the breakfast room this morning, she’d wanted to head to another table and avoid her. She’d felt as shy as a schoolgirl with a crush on a teacher, wanting to be close to Eva yet afraid of how Eva would react to her.

As she stared out the window at the solemn château across the way, she still couldn’t believe she’d told Eva all that stuff last night. Talk about feeling vulnerable. It was as if she’d walked into the breakfast room stark naked. But though she’d been apprehensive, she’d also loved how attracted she was to Eva. Who would ever have thought she’d feel this way about her? Giddy, aware of Eva’s presence every minute she was in the same vicinity, nervous if Eva was thinking about her as much as she was thinking about Eva. Amazing. Her life had taken a new, exciting turn for the better, thanks to these famous women of the past and especially to Eva.

Brigitte drained her cup of chocolate and glanced at her watch. Two minutes till nine. She’d be on time for a change and surprise Eva.
